FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Itinerary

Q. What do we do if the weather is wet/ bad?

A. We have lots of Plan B's (walks, activities, sightseeing destinations) up our sleeves to ensure that every tour succeeds in providing our guests with an outstanding and authentic tour experience of the Austrian Alps.

Q. What if I don't wish to join the group on a walk or programmed activity?

A. Each day on tour includes a full program of activities, however, there is always the option to opt out and spend your own time exploring, or just lounging by the hotel pool.

Q. Are there other optional activities?

A. Depending on weather conditions, local events, and/ or time available there are other activities that we have organised, and can organise whilst on tour. Examples of these include: going on flying foxes at the ‘Forest Adventure Garden’, visiting an avalanche museum in Tirol, creating your own paper, and attending a local brass band music festival.

Fitness

Q. What if I want to challenge myself with more/ harder physical activity?

A. If our programmed daily activities don’t satisfy your desired degree of physical exertion, then the walking trails that surround the hotel surely will. We can advise you of a number of walks (that will challenge even the fittest of athletes) that you can do in your own time – either early in the morning or upon your return to the hotel at the end of each day.

Q. What if I wake up feeling sore or tired and don’t wish to join the group for the day’s planned activities?

A. This happens, and one of the reasons why our hotel and the location of Faschina is the perfect home for our tour. You can spend the day enjoying the amenities or services at the hotel – whether that be the saunas and spas in the wellness area, having a massage, lounging by the pool or doing your own fitness workout in the gym. Alternatively you may prefer to take a chairlift up into the hills behind the hotel to go on your own stroll, or you can jump on the public bus which stops outside the hotel to do some leisurely self-exploration of the neighbouring villages.

Q. What if I suffer from fear of heights?

A. The use of chairlifts, gondolas or cable cars are often included in the tour program. The roads that we travel are often windy and can have steep slopes to one side. Options are usually available to accommodate a fear of heights however they need to be discussed with tour organisers upon booking. Please contact us directly to discuss your individual needs.

Accommodation

Q. What are the hotel rooms like at Alpenresort Walsertal?

A. All rooms have quality double beds and come with shower or bath, toilet, radio, TV, lockable safe, telephone, hair dryer, free wifi and a plush robe to use during your stay.

Q. Do the hotel rooms have private tea and coffee-making facilities?

A. No. These are not commonplace in Europe, and as we are staying in an authentically Austrian alpine hotel, they are not within the rooms. An assortment of teas is provided in the hotel lounge free of charge, whilst coffee is available for purchase at any time via hotel staff.

Q. Can I be in a ‘Twin’ room, as opposed to a ‘Double’?

A. Twin rooms are not traditional in Austria, and are not available in our hotel. However, the ‘Double’ rooms contain not one ‘double’ bed (mattress) but two single beds which are positioned next to each other. Each one has its own doona (quilt) – as per the photo on our ‘Accommodation’ webpage.

Hosts and Guides

Q. Who will be my tour hosts/ guides?

A. Patrick or Maree will be the principal host on any tour, and will be joined by a second experienced guide (if required).

Q. What is the guide/ guest ratio?

A. There will be one guide for up to eight guests. An additional guide will join the tour when there are nine to sixteen guests.

Q. What qualifications do the guides have?

A. Each guide is fluent in English, German and the local Austrian dialects. They possess the appropriate (Vorarlberg and Austria) certified qualifications in the field relevant to the tour they are leading.

Food

Q. What meals are included in the tour cost?

A. Included are daily full buffet breakfasts as well as fine dining 4-course dinners (choice of three mains)

Q. What food am I likely to eat during the day?

A. We visit a variety of guesthouses, alpine huts and restaurants where you select your own local dishes to try (specialities of the region include: Rösti, Käsespätzle, Hauswurst sausages, Gulasch-soup, and the ever popular desserts of apple strudel, and Kaiserschmarren). Austrians love their coffee and cake, so this is also fitted in whenever we can.

Q. Does the Alpenresort Walsertal hotel cater for food intolerances and dietary preferences?

A. Our hotel caters well for vegetarians and gluten free dietary requirements. Information about guests’ particular dietary requirements are requested from guests at the time of their booking.
