Tour Start / End

Each tour starts and finishes in Feldkirch (in Vorarlberg, Austria). At either the main train station, or at one of Austrian Alps Active's selected hotels.

Pick up time on the first day is 11am, and drop off on the last day is at 2pm.

Guests are encouraged to spend at least one night in Feldkirch prior to the tour to acclimatise and settle so that they are fit and ready for Day 1 of their tour experience. Accommodation recommendations and pick up/drop off details are provided upon booking.
Getting to the Tour Start (Feldkirch)
Feldkirch is a large town in Vorarlberg, Austria's western most province bordering Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Germany.

It is well connected by road and rail to two major international airports: Zurich (~2hrs) and Munich (~3hrs).

Required Fitness Level

To maximise enjoyment of all aspects of the tour, a certain walking fitness is required. As a ballpark figure, every tour guest should be able to walk on undulating terrain for a couple of hours without interruption.

All tour guests are required to provide medical clearance from their GP. (The Medical Clearance Form will be provided upon booking for the tour).

Using (Nordic) Walking Poles

We strongly recommend using walking poles; the most suitable poles are proper Nordic Walking poles as the wrist straps allow for greater and better power transfer. For advice on poles feel free to contact Patrick on patrick@austrianalpsactive.com.au.

For tour guests we have two pole models available for purchase. Click here to view the walking poles.

Nordic Walking poles are also available for hire for the duration of the tour. Hire fee is $60.

Weather

Summer in the Austrian Alps means mostly sunshine and temperatures around the 20s, but it is possible to have temperatures up to mid 30s or at the other extreme - low teens with snowfall on the peaks.

Winter up in the alps has more sunshine than you'd think - as the cloud often sits down in the valley. Snow instead of rain is the norm from December through to March.

Being in the alps the weather can change quickly, so being prepared is vital.

Clothing / Footwear

We recommend comfortable walking clothes for all weather conditions - inc. good quality socks, thermals, polar fleece vest or jacket, light-weight rain jacket, long sleeve shirt, bathers and hats (sun hat as well as beanie). For our daily walks - wearing and taking layers is the best option! We recommend clothes which are easy to strip off or put on and can be carried in a day pack.

As for footwear: cross trail shoes with a good sole profile or light hiking shoes are the best options. Thongs or sandals are suitable to wear after walks to allow feet to breathe.

Spending Money

Money is required for lunches, drinks and optional activities that may be offered. We recommend to allow for EURO 30 per day.

Booking & Payment

To book a place on any tour, the booking form needs to be completed and a deposit of $500 needs to be made. Please note: the deposit is non-refundable.
